Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

(This summary is from the Les Miserables movie website because it’s sort of hard to summarize)

My Thoughts: I have been wanting to see this ever since I heard about it and it was AMAZING! I would definitely go and see it again! I saw a youth theater theater production of Les Mis about two years ago and loved it! It is a little scary and mature at points, but since I knew the story I knew what was going to happen and was able to cover my eyes at points.

The singing was remarkable! The songs are amazing on their own, but the actors did such a wonderful job! The acting was just as good and I am suspecting that they will win lots of rewards and so will the movie. I was not familiar with a lot of the actors but I will be looking for them in future movies. Anne Hathaway did a wonderful job with I Dreamed a Dream and so did Samantha Barks with On My Own. Amanda Seyfried was in my favorite movie Mama Mia! and she was very good in this movie too. :) Sacha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter were so funny as the Thenardiers and brought comical relief to the movie. Sacha Baron Cohen was also in Hugo, (which I watched on Saturday) where he played a Station Inspector who also brought comical relief to the movie. Young Cosette was so cute and it makes you so happy when she gets the doll:) I give this movie four out of five stars and I really recommend seeing it!
