M&M Cookies – A Recipe

12 Feb

M&M CookiesHappy Thursday! I just received some wonderful news: I get to be part of the costume crew for my school’s one act play! And so, although I don’t post recipes often, (my sister is the main baker in my house – I prefer the role of taste-tester) today seemed like the perfect time to feature some delicious M&M cookies I made for Valentine’s Day. Not only are they yummy, they’re also very easy to make, so let’s get baking!

I N G R E D I E N T S:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups and 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 1/3 cups of M&M’s (with a few left over for topping)

T O    M A K E:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix together brown sugar, sugar, shortening, eggs, and vanilla extract in an electric mixer.
  • Add in the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt. The batter will be very thick!
  • Pour in the M&Ms. I found it easier to mix them in with a spatula than with the mixer.
  • Grease two baking sheets.
  • Shape the dough into balls and place them on the baking sheet. (Mine were 4×4) Flatten them out with your hand, and lightly press a few M&Ms into the surface.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes.
  • Let cool.

Happy baking!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Heart Cookies-A Recipe

2 Feb

I almost never post recipes, (my last one was actually two years ago, unless you count my cupcake analysis over the summer,) but when my sister Bella, showed me these delicious looking cookies from Sally’s Baking Addiction, I couldn’t wait to try them out! They are pretty easy to make and are super yummy, but this recipe doesn’t make a lot of cookies, especially if you cut them into hearts. (I got about nine cookies, plus some still-delicious scraps, but depending on how many you need, you may want to double the ingredients.) Anyways, let’s get started…

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Liquid Measuring Cup
  • Spatula
  • Wooden Spoon
  • 8 inch Baking Pan
  • Parchment Paper
  • Whisker
  • Cookie Cutter or Knife

  • 3/4 cups peanut butter
  • 1/3 melted butter
  • 1/2 cup light or dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/3 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips, (or 1/2 a cup if you really love chocolate like me:))

1. Preheat your oven to 350ºF

2. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the peanut butter, melted butter, and brown sugar.

3. Whisk in the milk and vanilla.

4. Then mix in the whole wheat flour, salt, and baking powder.

5. Line an 8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, using enough so that some hangs over the sides.

6. Pour the batter in the baking pan, and smooth out with a spatula, (or your hands if needed.)

7. Sprinkle the chocolate chips onto the baking pan, and gently press them into the batter.

8. Bake in oven for 20-22 minutes, or until the edges are barely browning.

9. Before cutting into shapes, wait until cookies are COMPLETELY COOL. (I waited 2 hours, and they still crumbled a little.) If not cutting into shapes, still let the cookies cool, but you can cut them into rectangles with a knife or pizza cutter, (which works surprisingly well!)

10. Enjoy!

I’ve been seeing this term a lot, so I felt like making an animation for it. ^u^On another note, I’m afraid to say October doesn’t look like a great month for drawing for me. I’m currently sick, bogged down with work, and trying to finish my first college application. I love you guys, and I’ll draw as much as time allow… but I have to take care of myself first, so please understand. ^^ Hoping for the best!
