M&M Cookies – A Recipe

12 Feb

M&M CookiesHappy Thursday! I just received some wonderful news: I get to be part of the costume crew for my school’s one act play! And so, although I don’t post recipes often, (my sister is the main baker in my house – I prefer the role of taste-tester) today seemed like the perfect time to feature some delicious M&M cookies I made for Valentine’s Day. Not only are they yummy, they’re also very easy to make, so let’s get baking!

I N G R E D I E N T S:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups and 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 1/3 cups of M&M’s (with a few left over for topping)

T O    M A K E:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix together brown sugar, sugar, shortening, eggs, and vanilla extract in an electric mixer.
  • Add in the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt. The batter will be very thick!
  • Pour in the M&Ms. I found it easier to mix them in with a spatula than with the mixer.
  • Grease two baking sheets.
  • Shape the dough into balls and place them on the baking sheet. (Mine were 4×4) Flatten them out with your hand, and lightly press a few M&Ms into the surface.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes.
  • Let cool.

Happy baking!

Mimi’s Valentines Day Mix-Up-A Photo Story

14 Feb

Today Mimi is bringing her Valentines to school for her class, this photo story features her brother from the Aristocats movie!

Today at school Mimi is having a Valentines Day Party!

Do you like her Valentines? She spent all weekend working on adding the lace and getting the glitter and colors just right!

“Mimi time to go! The bus will be here any minute!” “Okay Mom! Just one second!” So off Mimi went to get her festive and stylish valentines day tot bag!

“Hey! Berlioz! I was here first!” “Stop pushing!” “Ugg!” And as you can see Berlioz and Mimi got into a sibling fight.

After a while of arguing and pushing Mimi and Berlioz were able to get their stuff. “I’m going this way!” “Well, I’m going this way!” “Yeah!” “Finally!” Mimi muttered under her breath when Berlioz was finally gone.

At school, Mimi couldn’t wait to show Juliet her amazing Valentines. “Hey Mimi! I like your ribbon, very festive! Want to see my valentines?” “Sure! I bet they’re going to be awesome!”

“Juliet! They’re so pretty! I hope I get a pop-up heart!” “Thanks Mimi, but I bet yours will be the fanciest in the class! Now come on! I can’t wait to see yours!”

“Okay! But just look inside my bag because I want them to be a surprise!”

“Um…interesting choice. Going a little different this year I see. Um…Mimi, if you want the truth, I think they’re hideous!”

“What? Did they get smushed while I was on the bus!? Are they somehow ugly and messy and ugly!? They were perfect! What happened?”

“Um…They transformed into dinosaurs?” “Oh, I know what happened! This morning when me and Berlioz were fighting our valentines must have gotten mixed up! Oh no! What am I going to do!?”

“They were so pretty! Why, why did this have to happen to me?! I mean it’s like my seventh favorite holiday!”

“Hey guys, what’s happening?” Ruby asked while Mimi sat complaining and worrying. “DINOSAURS!” Mimi sobbed. “What did I do?” Ruby wondered. Juliet quickly told her the story.

“Wait! I have an idea! Meet me here at indoor recess!”

At indoor recess…”Alright, scissors.” “Scissors.” “Tape!” “Tape.” “Lace” “Sorry Mimi we’re out of lace.” “Oh, okay then, we’re done!”

And then the friends fell in a heap.

“Can you tell the difference?” “No! It looks great!”

Now it was time to exchange valentines. “Ooh! This is so pretty!” “I love this one!”

Meanwhile in Berlioz’s class…”What?!” “Dude! I thought you said they were dinosaurs!”

Happy Valentines Day!

And now just a quick shout out to Sophie and Jess for voting for my sisters photo in the American Girl Fan Photo Contest! You guys are awesome!

Smash Season 2

Smash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Smash is my favorite TV show! And, the second season premiered on Tuesday, but I was able to watch the first half of the episode on itunes earlier! This season Jennifer Hudson joins the cast and I loved her and Karen (Katherine Mcphee’s) duet! I can’t wait to watch it again next Tuesday!!!

Upside Downton Abbey Sesame Street Video

This Video! Now all you Downton Abbey fans out there, (including me!) will love this video. It’s really funny and makes you want to watch Downton Abbey even more! The set is so like the real one, but it still makes you laugh because everything has puppets and they’re upside down. The Lady Violet puppet is also really funny, (but not as much as the character on the TV show,) and the puppet Carson is basically what the one on the TV show is, but he still makes you smile because he is so serious.

These adorable stuffed animals! I have the elephant who I named Juliet and I love her! I think the other ones are so, so, so, cute! The turtle’s eyes are so big and just make you want to hug it! I love the giraffe, who looks so fluffy, and plush. Out of the four my least favorite is the dog, but still, these are so adorable!

Traitor in the Shipyard: A Caroline Mystery (American Girl Mysteries)The Haunted Opera: A Marie-Grace Mystery (American Girl Mysteries)

Lost in the City: A Julie Mystery (American Girl Mysteries)

These books, I really like reading these books on snowy afternoons spent inside snuggling under a blanket. They are short and suspenseful, and I really like the Julie mysteries, but I didn’t really enjoy the other Cecile and Marie-Grace stories, but hopefully this one will be better. This is the first Caroline mystery, so hopefully it will be another great mystery! I always like reading the facts in the back of the books, they are usually my favorite parts!

Valentines Day Pink and Red Mini Heart Dress fits American Girl or other 18 inch Dolls

This dress from Enchanted Designer, I LOVE this! It’s so cute and I would so get it for myself if it was for girls!

Shirred graphic T

This shirt, I really like this shirt and I think it’s great for Valentine’s day! The dog is really cute, and I like how the sleeves are fitted. The sequins and sparkles add some pretty texture, and I love the color!
